The Cottage (Te Whare)
The exact date of construction of the cottage is unknown however it is shown in photographs at its present site, circa 1870's. It is believed originally to be a surveyor's cottage which was moved to this site from the gold mining Blue Spur township near Gabriel's Gully. Undergoing continual restoration, this three bed-roomed cottage is nestled quietly in an exquisite cottage garden which attracts many birds including the native Wood Pigeon, NZ’s Bird of the Year in 2018.

This historic cottage is fitted with all the modern amenities to make your stay comfortable, i.e. dishwasher, Smart TV, washing machine & dryer. There are three bedrooms; two double beds and a single, all with bamboo mattress toppers, quality linen and electric blankets. The cottage comfortably sleeps four adults. The kitchen, lounge and rumpus room are all spacious and whilst the bathroom is compact as per the original footprint, it has been modernised and furnished to reflect the era of the cottage.

The cottage is within easy walking distance of the shops and cafes of Lawrence, an historic gold mining town established in 1861. Lawrence is on the Clutha Gold Trail which offers bike riding and walking trails for the active, it is on the main route between Dunedin (1 hour) and Queenstown (2.5 hours).

Please respect the nature and animal life that we have nurtured; the hedgehog, quail and song thrush families who live in the back garden, the blackbirds who have a nest in the clematis vine on the garage, tuis, bellbirds and kereru (wood pigeons) and even the common sparrows who consider the property their own.
